Sunshine Play Café began with a vision to create something our community was missing — a warm, welcoming place where families could gather, children could play freely, and everyone could enjoy delicious food together.

 

I’m a local mom of two busy little boys, and like many parents, my days are filled with playground adventures, sticky fingers, and the joy (and chaos) of raising young children. I’ve always loved baking and creating food that brings people together. My passion for food led me to earn a Bachelor of Science in Food and Nutrition from Western University, where I deepened my understanding of how nourishing food can support families.

 

But my relationship with food also became personal.

 

For almost 15 years I’ve lived gluten-free, and during some seasons I couldn’t have eggs or dairy either. I remember how frustrating it felt walking into cafés or bakeries and realizing there was nothing safe—or truly delicious—to enjoy. Food is supposed to be joyful, but when you have allergies or sensitivities it can sometimes feel like you’re sitting on the sidelines.

 

That experience stayed with me.

 

When I became a mom, I saw the same thing happen to families and children. I wanted to create a place where no child feels left out of the treat, where parents can trust the food being served, and where everyone can gather comfortably.

 

Sunshine Play Café was built around that vision.

 

It’s a family-run space designed for connection—where little ones can climb, explore, and play, while parents slow down with a good coffee and something homemade. Every baked good and menu item is created with intention, inspired by my love of baking and my commitment to making allergen-friendly food that still feels indulgent and special.

 

More than anything, Sunshine Play Café is about creating a community. A place where laughter echoes from the play area, friendships form over coffee, and families feel completely welcome.

 

Because every parent deserves a moment to breathe—and every child deserves a place to play and enjoy something delicious.
